Yamaga Taiko

 

On August 15th and 16th a small town north of Kumamoto, Kyushu, celebrates their yearly summer matsuri. Yamaga is famous for  its  festival, which begins the first day with a firework and many entertaining side events. One of them were a series of Taiko bands playing on the a little stage next to the sidewalk. The first band were the Yamaga-Taiko group with this elderly woman of 67 years. She was performing strong with her group as well as the other groups as the following pictures show…

 

 

 

Mostly impressed I was by the group which followed from the city of Kumamoto. I enjoying their rhythm, powerful performance and above all the fun they all apparently had…

Finally school teams also had the chance to perform. They also proved to be very entertaining with their enthusiasm.
